The choice of colour and shape for the abstract pieces are random and
intuitive. As each painting develops Hazel draws on visual ideas although
not meant to be direct interpretations.
An
abstract painting challenges the viewer to form their own response
either on an
intellectual level, where they are trying to figure out what the painting
is or what it reminds them of. All you really need to say to yourself
is: ‘Do I like it? Or do I not?’ There is no hidden agenda
in Hazel’s work.
She still enjoys painting our beautiful countryside, sea and sky, buildings
etc in all media but every now and then she will break away and go into
the unknown ABSTRACT.
